Mark Hoban was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Fareham in June 2001 and re-elected in 2005. In May 2010, he was re-elected with a majority of over 17,000.
Mark was appointed the Financial Secretary to the Treasury in May 2010, having done this role in opposition since December 2005. Between November 2003 and December 2005 he was Shadow Minister for Schools. Prior to November 2003, he was an Opposition Whip.
Mark was a member of the Select Committee on Science and Technology between 2001 and 2003.
Mark lives in Locks Heath with his wife Fiona. They married in August 1994. Fiona works for the Corporation of London, which is the local authority for London's financial centre.
His involvement in politics started in 1980, when he joined the Conservative Party in the North East of England. He first stood for parliament in 1997 in South Shields.
Mark was born and brought up in the North East of England. He attended a comprehensive school in Durham and graduated with a degree in economics from the London School of Economics.
Mark is a Chartered Accountant. He worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and its predecessor firms between 1985 and 2001.
Outside politics, Mark is a dab hand in the kitchen. He also enjoys reading and travel, particularly to France.
