The Fareham Constituency

Fareham is on the South - East Hampshire coast. The western boundary of the constituency is the Solent and the River Hamble, one of the foremost sailing centres of the country. To the east, the boundary is Portsmouth Harbour.

As well as Fareham itself, the constituency includes a number of communities with strong local identities including Portchester, Titchfield and Whiteley. In the Western Wards, in spite of large scale housing developments people still think of themselves as living in the distinct communities of Warsash, Locks Heath, Park Gate and Titchfield Common.

Fareham has strong connections with the Navy. Historically, it was a place where naval officers lived and the fine Georgian houses in the High Street are a legacy of this. Fareham still has strong naval connections - it is home to naval personnel based in Portsmouth and surrounding areas. The Ministry of Defence is a major customer for many local businesses.

Fareham is also home to many high-tech businesses. The Merlin teleport at Cams Hall provides ultra fast communications around the globe and companies are relocating to Fareham to take advantage of this. Good transport links make Fareham an ideal place for international businesses.
